Concussions in Ski Racing
The safety and well-being of our athletes is NJISRA’s top priority. Concussions are a serious injury that can occur in any sport, including alpine ski racing. A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body that disrupts normal brain function.
Recognizing and responding properly to concussions is critical. Athletes, coaches, officials, and parents should be aware of the signs and symptoms, which can include headache, dizziness, confusion, balance problems, or changes in mood or behavior. If a concussion is suspected, the athlete should be removed from participation immediately and evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.
NJISRA follows state and national return-to-play guidelines to ensure athletes recover fully and safely before returning to training or competition. Education, awareness, and early action are key to protecting our athletes both on and off the hill.
